We got to spend some time with Dayana and Pietro of Blue Barn Secret Garden, and if you weren’t already in awe at their fresh flower bouquets we carry in our stores, you’re about to be. Dayana and Pietro moved to Springfield from Venezuela and soon established their roots with Blue Barn Secret Garden, their quarter-acre backyard garden oasis. The garden features rows and rows of flowers, up to 20 varieties at a time. Our favorite part was the “attraction garden” they built along the fenceline for the birds and critters (because no one wants to eat or use pesticides, so this deters/redirects them away from the flowers and produce they want to harvest)! Dayana harvests and cuts flowers daily by hand and delivers them to MaMa Jean’s so you can enjoy them, too.

Blue Barn Secret Garden holds a special place in our hearts because for our anniversary last year, we really wanted to thank our local vendors in a deeper way than by simply collaborating with them in our stores. With a little help from our friends Springfield Community Gardens, The Local Farmers Grant was born. And you guessed it, Blue Barn Secret Garden was the receiver of this amazing grant! We even got the insider scoop that they were able to use the funds to order a storage cooler for their flowers, enabling them to have less waste and more space for their bountiful harvests.
Thank you for welcoming us into your home and garden, Pietro and Dayana. Investing in small farms strengthens our regional food system and keeps our Southwest Missouri community growing and thriving.
