Our Story
100% Women Owned
MaMa Jean’s was established in December 2002 at 1727 S. Campbell by Susie Kawamoto and Diana Hicks. This full-service natural market was named in tribute to both of the owner’s mothers: “MaMa” Loweta Hicks and Jean Farbin. With the intention of bringing local, organic and natural foods to Springfield, and a focus on great customer service, MaMa Jean’s was welcomed into the community with enthusiasm.
Since opening their flagship store, Susie and Diana have watched their business grow from 6 employees to 150. They dug their roots deeper into Springfield with the addition of their second and third stores on Republic Road and East Sunshine Street. In December of 2020, they relocated their flagship location to 228 W Sunshine which included the addition of MJ’s Market & Deli, featuring a full-service deli catering to Keto, plant-based, vegan, and gluten-free lifestyles.
MaMa Jean’s cares about their community and gives back by hosting dozens of local vendors at their yearly Anniversary Celebration. They invest in the Ozarks by participating in numerous local events throughout the community and by raising money at each cash register for locally based non-profit organizations through their Change for Change program
Both of Susie’s children carry on the MaMa Jean’s legacy, working and contributing for the family business. Her daughter Kelly is MaMa Jean’s General Manager and her son Jeff manages inventory as the Central Buyer.
