We have all heard the 3 R’s of being eco-friendly: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Let’s focus on the first R: Reduce. You can make the biggest impact on our environment by skipping the plastic bag at check out, opting to bring your own jars or containers from home for bulk items, and ditching the single-use items that togo drinks typically come in. At MaMa Jean’s Natural Market we encourage all of our customers and employees to be mindful consumers. Being an eco-friendly, mindful consumer takes a bit more planning but it is so worth it in the long run.

Next time you plan a shopping trip make sure to bring your reusable shopping bags! Think ahead to make sure to bring plenty of bags and consider what kinds of items you are buying. Buying perishable items, dry items, and household items? Bring at least 3 bags to keep these kinds of items separated. You will receive a $0.10 bag rebate at checkout when you bring your own bag as well!

When shopping in our Bulk Foods and Bulk Herbs & Spice Department make sure to bring your own container to reduce waste and to get the perfect amount each time. When bringing in your own container follow these steps for a hassle free check out:

  1. If you are reusing a container, make sure your container has the barcode marked out so it doesn't get scanned at checkout.
  2. Have a cashier weigh your container before you fill it up.
  3. Fill your container with as little or as much as you would like with desired bulk item.
  4. Jot down the item number off of the bulk bin or jar so the cashier can ring it up.
  5. Repeat as needed!

If you plan on stopping by our deli for a coffee drink, tea, or smoothie make sure to bring your own container and straw as well! Just make sure to bring a clean container that is large enough to fit your 12 ounce or 16 ounce drink. Fill up your own thermos with drip coffee for only $0.50!
