Popcorn: the festive snack we associate with parties, movies, and family fun. What makes popcorn such a celebratory snack? Maybe it’s the unique, warm, and rich aroma, or perhaps that light, airy texture. After all, is there a more perfect canvas for any number of sprinkled and drizzled flavors? It may smell delicious and have the perfect crunch, but the simple truth is, we love popcorn because it pops! And who doesn’t love a snack with a trick up its sleeve?
It’s low cost, especially when you buy in bulk. It’s also low in calories and high in fiber. But at the end of the day, popcorn is a perfect natural food that turns any snack time into a special occasion.
If you’re still hooked on your microwave, you may be intimidated by the idea of homemade popcorn. Don’t worry, it’s incredibly easy. You don’t have to have an air popper or other fancy popcorn machine to use bulk popcorn. Here’s the simple steps we use to make popcorn on the stovetop.
• Put 2 tablespoons of high-heat oil (coconut, peanut, safflower, canola or butter) on the bottom of a large pot and heat on medium-high.
• Once heated, add 1 cup bulk popcorn kernels and stir to coat with oil.
• Cover (ideally with a clear glass lid) and occasionally shake or swirl the closed pot to distribute oil and heat.
• Listen to your popcorn. Once popping slows down (after a couple minutes) remove from heat and take the lid off to let out moisture.
Your popcorn is now ready to be “dressed” either in a simple sprinkle of salt or… our favorite snack seasoning: PARTY POP!
Ingredients:
(All ingredients available in Bulk at MaMa Jean’s!)
Organic white popcorn – popped
Olive oil
Pizza seasoning
Nutritional yeast
Sea salt
Directions:
Pop desired amount of organic white popcorn. Place popped popcorn in a brown paper bag. Add all other ingredients to taste. Securely close top of bag, and shake well. Pour into serving bowl and enjoy.
