The Differences of Love
An Introduction to the 5 Love Languages

Have you ever thought that you were going to nail showing your love to someone and it didn’t go as expected? Have you ever expected your love to give their love in a certain way and it never quite seemed to happen?

It turns out we all express and receive Love in different ways! There are quizzes online to find your primary Love Languages, a quick Google search of 5 Love Languages will yield a few different quick quizzes. Here’s a very general synopsis to get you started!

Words of Affirmation:

  • This person likes to be told how much they are appreciated and loved. Make sure your words are sincere and heart-felt.

    • If you’re sharing face-to-face, make sure to look into their eyes.

    • Write your words of admiration and affection in a card.

Acts of Service:

  • This person feels loved when their sweetheart does something that makes their life easier.

    • Cook your love dinner! If this seems daunting, buy a meal to heat up at home.

    • Run your love a bath with calming essential oils and epsom salts to relax tired muscles.

Receiving Gifts:

  • This person likes to be given tokens of affection. They don’t have to be large or expensive gifts. Giving a small thoughtful gift can have just as big an impact.

    • Buy something that your sweetie has wanted for a while.

    • You can never go wrong with chocolate, and there are a lot of different types to choose from!

Quality Time:

  • No matter what the two of you are doing, make sure that the time spent together is one-on-one without distractions.

    • Put your phones away! Cell phones are one of the biggest culprits of distraction.

    • If you have children, arrange for childcare so that your focus can be solely on your love.

Physical Touch:

  • This person really soaks up Love by being physically close with their sweetie.

    • A foot or shoulder massage with an organic massage oil provides the touch this Love Type craves.

    • Even if the two of you are just watching a t.v. show, sit close enough that you’re touching your partner.

This list is a small jump start to remembering to give in a way that the receiver can best take in what is being given. It also reminds us that if we didn’t quite get what we were wanting, it could be that the giver is showing affection in a different Love Language from yours with all of their heart!
